Calcium supplements, when taken as directed, are generally safe. However, potential side effects may include nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, and bloating.
Certain antibiotics (e.g., Ciprofloxacin, Tetracycline, Levofloxacin, Doxycycline, Minocycline) and medications such as Levothyroxine and Verapamil may interact with this product due to the calcium content, as calcium can reduce the absorption of these drugs. It is recommended to take these medications at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after taking calcium.
Bisphosphonates (e.g., Alendronate) may also interact with this product, as calcium can reduce their absorption. These should be taken separately.
For individuals at risk of iron deficiency, it is recommended to take calcium supplements at night to avoid interference with iron absorption.
Concurrent use of aluminum-containing medications with Vitamin D may lead to increased aluminum levels in the blood, particularly in patients with chronic kidney failure.
Thiazide diuretics (e.g., Hydrochlorothiazide) may interact with this product due to its calcium content, potentially increasing serum calcium levels.
Over 99% of calcium in the human body is stored in bones and teeth. A decrease in estrogen levels in women leads to reduced calcium absorption and decreased bone mass.
The regulation of plasma calcium and phosphorus levels is primarily dependent on Vitamin D, which enhances calcium absorption from the intestines.
Vitamin D is crucial for calcium balance and bone health, playing a role in osteoporosis prevention. It also contributes to muscle strength and neuromuscular function, thereby supporting bone health.
