• Copper (from 1.25 mg Copper Oxide): 1 mg
• L-Lysine (from 93.7 mg L-Lysine Hydrochloride): 75 mg

This Calmerz Soy supplement is a calcium-based product manufactured by Simorgh Darou Attar.

Pharmacology and Mechanism of Action

• Soy Oil is a plant-based oil rich in unsaturated fatty acids, containing more than 50% linoleic acid and less than 10% palmitic acid. Phytosterols derived from soy oil are used for high cholesterol.
• Over 99% of the body’s calcium is stored in bones and teeth. A reduction in estrogen levels in women leads to decreased calcium absorption and bone mass.
• Vitamin D regulates calcium and phosphate concentrations in the blood. It enhances intestinal calcium absorption and is vital for bone health, preventing osteoporosis. It also strengthens bones by improving muscle strength and neuromuscular function.
• Zinc plays a role in various bodily processes, including growth, immunity, reproduction, and nervous system development.
• Magnesium supports nerve, muscle, and heart function.
• Vitamin K2 (Menaquinone) is used for osteoporosis, bone resorption, rheumatoid arthritis, liver diseases, athletic performance, and hypercholesterolemia in dialysis patients.
• Manganese is an essential nutrient acting as a cofactor in several metabolic and enzymatic reactions.
• Copper is an essential mineral. In older women, the inclusion of rare minerals like copper in a calcium-rich diet slows down bone loss.
• Boron is important in mineral metabolism. It may enhance calcium absorption and reduce urinary excretion of calcium and magnesium, as well as lower serum phosphorus levels.

Side Effects

When used according to doctor instructions, this supplement is generally safe and well tolerated. However, it may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, bloating, and diarrhea.
Due to the presence of soy, allergic reactions may occur.

Drug Interactions

• Some antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, doxycycline, minocycline) and levothyroxine may interact with this product due to calcium content. Calcium can reduce absorption of these medications because of its chelating effect. These medications should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after calcium consumption.
• Bisphosphonates (alendronate) may interact due to calcium content, which can reduce the absorption of these drugs. They should be taken separately.
• For those at risk of iron deficiency, calcium supplements are best taken at night to avoid interference with iron absorption.
• This product may reduce the effectiveness of penicillamine and should be taken 2 hours apart from it.
• Vitamin K is an antagonist to oral anticoagulants like warfarin. It is better to avoid this product with such drugs.
• Zinc may theoretically increase the effects of antidiabetic medications.

Use During Pregnancy and Lactation

Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Precautions

Use cautiously in cases of kidney failure and hypercalcemia. Rheumatoid arthritis patients should use this product cautiously due to the presence of zinc. Those allergic to soy, peanuts, or any ingredient in this product should avoid it.
