Active Ingredients

L-Arginine (as L-Arginine Hydrochloride) 1000 mg

Other ingredients: Soybean oil, glycerin, gelatin, sorbitol, methylparaben, propylparaben.

Dosage and Administration

Take 1 to 2 softgels daily, between meals, with a glass of water or as directed by your physician.

Precautions and Contraindications

If you are taking any medication, supplements, or herbs, or have a chronic medical condition, consult your physician or pharmacist before using this product.

Discontinue use if you are allergic to L-Arginine or any other component of this product.

Post-Myocardial Infarction: Oral L-Arginine is not recommended immediately following a heart attack.

Asthma and Allergies: L-Arginine may exacerbate asthma or allergic conditions. Use with caution if you have these conditions.

Herpes (Herpes Simplex): If you have genital or oral herpes, use with caution, as L-Arginine may promote viral replication.

Non-Emergency Surgery: For better blood pressure control, discontinue L-Arginine 2 weeks prior to elective surgery.

Side Effects

When used as directed, oral L-Arginine is generally considered safe. However, like all supplements, it may cause side effects in some individuals. Not all individuals will experience these side effects, but if they occur, consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist. Common side effects include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, skin rashes, hives, and night sweats. L-Arginine may also cause allergic reactions and worsen respiratory inflammation in individuals with asthma.

Drug Interactions

Potassium-Sparing Diuretics (e.g., Amiloride, Spironolactone, Triamterene) and ACE Inhibitors (e.g., Captopril, Enalapril, Lisinopril): Concurrent use with L-Arginine may increase potassium levels, leading to hyperkalemia.

Antihypertensive Medications (e.g., Captopril, Enalapril, Losartan, Valsartan, Diltiazem, Amlodipine, Hydrochlorothiazide, Furosemide) and Nitrates: Since L-Arginine itself causes vasodilation, co-administration with these medications may enhance blood pressure-lowering effects.

Antidiabetic Medications: L-Arginine may increase the effects of blood sugar-lowering medications. Monitor blood sugar levels when used together.

Sildenafil: Theoretically, concurrent use with L-Arginine could cause hypotension, although this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Use during Pregnancy and Lactation

Short-term use of L-Arginine in recommended doses is likely safe; however, due to insufficient research, the use of this product during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Pharmacological Effects and Mechanism of Action

L-Arginine is an essential amino acid crucial for protein synthesis, primarily known for its vascular effects. L-Arginine is converted into nitric oxide in the blood vessel walls, leading to vasodilation, which can help lower blood pressure. It may also stimulate the release of growth hormone, prolactin, glucagon, and insulin.
